November 17, 2008 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

ALLEN PARK —The city begins the Christmas season with annual events this week.

A Santa mailbox will be available starting Wednesday in the lobby of the Community Center, 15800 White. Children can stop by and drop in their completed Christmas list. Those not sure what to say can pick up a form letter available at the Recreation Office to help them get started.

For more information call (313) 928-0770.

The seventh annual Allen Park Lighted Christmas Parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday; the route will be Park Avenue to Allen Road to the Allen Park Community Center. The parade is sponsored by the Allen Park Community Council and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Last year’s parade was described by city employees as, “An exciting, old-fashioned way to kick off the holiday season.”

Afterward there will be open basketball and ice skating in the Community Center, where Santa will be arriving on his sleigh. Refreshments will be served.

Also at the center after the parade from 6 to 9 p.m. will be the Friends of the Allen Park Libraries holiday decoration sale.

For more information about the parade and Community Center events call (313) 928-0771.
