Antique valentines to be shown at tea event

February 12, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

LINCOLN PARK –  A collection of old family valentines will be shared with guests at the Lincoln Park Preservation Alliance Valentine’s Day Tea fundraiser at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ikaros Hall, 1677 Fort St.

Guests also will learn about the history of valentines and how Victorian architects were influenced by romance while sipping tea, eating scones with Devonshire Cream and jam, a variety of tea-sandwiches and desserts.

Admission costs $10 per person; reservations are required and can be made by calling (313) 598-3137.
The valentines, which are believed to date to the early 20th century, belonged to a distant relative of alliance President Leslie Lynch-Wilson.
