The Dearborn Symphony will perform its annual pops concert at 8 p.m. Friday at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn.
Back by popular demand, pianist and guest conductor Rich Ridenour will lead the orchestra in a program of rousing favorites that includes Broadway showstoppers by Marvin Hamlisch and Andrew Lloyd Webber, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Freddie Mercury, highlights from “Showboat,” and “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin.
Dearborn’s Kevin and Anna Dewey will be featured in several numbers, including “One Hand, One Heart.” Vanguard Voices and HFCC choirs will join the performance for John Williams’ “Phantom Menace” among others.
Hailed by the press as “An act that’s as masterfully musical as it is wickedly funny… a Victor Borge waiting in the wings,” Ridenour is recognized as presenting one of the greatest piano pops shows today. Pianist to the stars, Ridenour has accompanied Carol Lawrence, Robert Guillaume, Smokey Robinson, Larry Gatlin, Martin Short, Mercedes Ellington and “B” for Bob from “Sesame Street.”
The orchestra will welcome Dearborn High School senior Stephanie Reisdorf as guest conductor. As part of its commitment to support school music programs, the orchestra offered Dearborn High School Band Aid Boosters a fundraising opportunity. They would receive 50 percent of the proceeds from tickets they sold to this concert. Additionally, the student selling the most tickets would have a private conducting lesson by Ridenour and conduct a piece at the concert.
“I’m so excited,” Reisdorf said. “This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

Advance reservations are recommended at Andiamo Dearborn, Ciao’s, The Early American Room at the Dearborn Inn, Giulio & Sons at the Hyatt Regency-Dearborn, Kiernan’s and Silky’s, Parisian Bistro, and new this year, The Grill at The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn.
