LINCOLN PARK — The corner of Dix and Southfield roads was the site of two semitruck accidents Monday.
The first knocked out traffic lights for about two hours. The driver of a truck headed south on Dix was turning onto westbound Southfield about 11:30 a.m. when a log book fell from a visor and into the steering wheel.
Police said as he tried to retrieve it, he lost control and veered off the road, striking a utility pole and snapping it in half and downing the traffic lights in the process.
The top half of the pole struck another vehicle in the intersection, causing minor damage to the bumper.
Just before 2 p.m. — about the time the pole and lights were reinstalled by DTE Energy and Wayne County work crews — a car cut off a semitruck in the right lane of southbound Dix at Arlington.
An unsecured 10,000-pound coil of steel on the trailer’s bed rolled forward toward the cab, lodging in its sleeper section and enabling the driver to escape unharmed. Police then cited him for hauling an unsecured load.
The truck and trailer were cleared from the scene by about 5:30 p.m.
