Packing the final bits of soil around her black-eyed Susan at the foot of the main sign for the Environmental Interpretive Center on the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus is Carol Crumpton, community outreach for Arbor Hospice in the Downriver area. Hospice volunteers and staff planted 25 flowers during the nonprofit’s 25th anniversary community gardening event July 18 to represent 25 years in the community. Ray Wiegand’s Nursery in Macomb Township donated the plants. The planting was was the fourth of five Arbor has organized to honor the lives of those lost during its existence.
