Package considered for new residents

ALLEN PARK — City officials are considering Councilman Felice Lalli’s suggestion to look into creating a welcome package for new residents in the city.
He cited the city’s vision, mission and value statements, all revolving around “residents coming first,” as a reason for the package.
“In the spirit of the (three statements),” he said, “a program should be instituted to welcome new residents to our community that might not be fully aware of many wonderful things that our community has to offer.
“It is also the philosophy of the mayor and council to promote ‘Buy Allen Park.’”
Lalli suggested that the council work in conjunction with the Downtown Development Authority and the Chamber of Commerce to develop the formal welcome package, which would include information about the city and activities within it while promoting local businesses to new residents.
“I think this would be a good thing,” said Mayor Gary Burtka.
He suggested that Lalli, as a council delegate, work with the DDA and the chamber to identify a funding source and then to move forward with the project.
