RIVERVIEW —Applications now are being accepted for an ad hoc Summerfest and Cruisin’ Downriver committee established by a July 20 City Council resolution.
The cruise, which runs through Lincoln Park, Southgate, Wyandotte and Riverview, was held for the tenth year in June. Summerfest, held at Young Patriots Park concurrently with the cruise, features fireworks, craft booths, entertainment and food vendors.
The city’s financial condition has jeopardized the two events and raised the need for new and innovative approaches, according to Councilman Elmer Trombley. Committee members will study options, alternatives and means to the continue the events in the future.
Officials say the committee will comprise a cross section of stakeholders and interested parties, such as service organizations, school district employees, local businesses, residents and present or prospective corporate sponsors.
The council will go through the applications during a study session in the next few weeks before making appointments, Trombley said.
For an application contact City Clerk Judy Bratcher at (734) 281-4239 or at www.cityofriverview.com.
