August 15, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

HEIGHTS — Registration is ongoing for two upcoming free Zumba Gold classes.

The sessions, offered by Elements of Exercise and the Parks and Recreation Department, will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Eton Senior Center, 4900 Pardee, and at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Berwyn Senior Center, 26155 Richardson.

Consecutive six-week sessions at Eton run from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Mondays from Sept. 21 through Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 through Dec. 7.

Consecutive six-week sessions at Berwyn run from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursdays from Sept. 24 through Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 through Dec. 17 (no class on Nov. 26).

Cost of the six-week sessions is $30 for one day per week.

Its creators call Zumba “a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective and fun fitness system.” The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

Gold Zumba, given while participants are standing and seated, takes the basic program and makes it accessible to active older adults, deconditioned individuals and those recovering from injuries.

Participants are advised to bring a bottle of water and a towel.     To register call (313) 791-3600, (313) 277-7765 (Berwyn Center) or (888) 363-3635. For more information go to www.elementsofexercise.com.
