Academy hopeful flees police

August 29, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

A traffic stop turned into a foot chase Aug. 21 when a 22-year-old would-be police officer fled because he had been drinking.

At 2 a.m. morning officers noticed the suspect delayed activating his headlights in the Yack Arena parking lot, then failed to signal a turn.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle with their flashing lights, but the driver continued driving for a block until police activated their siren.

When the driver pulled over and exited his car, he led officers on a chase for several blocks before he was tackled and restrained. He told police that he was planning to receive training to become an officer and ran because he believed his chances would be hurt by an arrest for drinking and driving.

He was cited for obstructing police and being a disorderly person.
