Allen, Dix-Toledo road projects to start next year

September 5, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

SOUTHGATE — Work on two major city arteries won’t start until the spring, Wayne County officials said recently.

Crews will resurface Allen and Dix-Toledo roads from North Line to Pennsylvania using top-mix asphalt starting about April 15, 2010, said Ron Agacinski, deputy director of engineering for the Roads Division of the county’s Department of Public Services.

City officials had said previously that they were expecting the work to start in mid-August.

Agacinski said county crews currently are resurfacing Dix in Lincoln Park, and that he doesn’t expect that project to wrap up until mid-November. He was unsure of the basis for city officials’ earlier announcement.

In addition to the work on Dix-Toledo and Allen next year, county officials also have agreed to repave the heavily rutted northbound ramp from Pennsylvania to Dix-Toledo, which Southgate officials said should provide a big relief for a lot of drivers.
