DEARBORN

Neighbors suspected in break-in

A man believes some neighbors may be responsible for a burglary at his house in the 24600 block of Calvin Aug. 28 that left the victim without his newly purchased 42-inch TV and a $15,000 wristwatch.

The man’s next-door neighbor told police he saw three white men pull into the driveway of the burglarized house in an older, blue Ford Escort shortly before the homeowner arrived. He said two of them jumped a privacy fence while the other stayed near the car.

After the stolen items had been handed over the fence, two of the men got into the car and left while the other began walking away.

The neighbor and burglary victim agreed the description of the suspects were similar to the occupants of a rental house down the street. They also told police that an older, blue Ford Escort frequently was parked outside the rental house.

Courteous speaking robber holds man at gunpoint

A 26-year-old man was robbed Sept. 1 of a cell phone and wallet containing cash and credit cards while sitting in a car parked in the 4200 block of Coleman.

The man told police he was talking on his cell phone when he noticed what he described as a black Ford Ranger slowly approaching his vehicle from behind. He said the truck passed by him before reversing and stopping directly next to his car.

When the truck stopped, the man said he heard someone say, “Excuse me, sir.” He told police he rolled down his window, at which point he noticed the driver was pointing a rifle at him.

The suspect told the man to throw everything he had out the window, which he did. The man said the suspect got out of the truck — rifle still pointed at the victim — and picked up the stolen items. As he was getting back into his truck he advised the victim to “have a nice day,” before driving north on Coleman.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS

Driver runs light, shoots at oncoming car

A 42-year-old Dearborn Heights man reported being shot at while driving south on Telegraph near Joy Road about 9 p.m. Sept. 3.

The man told police he saw what looked to be a 1990s model white Chevrolet Impala driving at a high rate of speed on eastbound Joy. Although the Impala was approaching a red light, the driver made no effort to stop or slow down, the man said.

As the car passed, the man heard what sounded like two gunshots, police said. When he finally arrived at his house, he found a hole in the rear passenger section of his 2008 Ford Fusion, as well as a hole in the trunk, which police later determined to be caused by bullets shot from a handgun.

Police said the incident appears to be random.

Fast-food burglar takes spicy chicken

A manager at Wendy’s, 8515 Telegraph, called police when he arrived for work and found the locks cut off an outdoor freezer unit about 10 a.m. Aug. 29.

Stolen were two cases of spicy chicken patties valued at about $250. The manager told police it was the second within a week that someone had tampered with the freezer.
