Dearborn Youth Theatre offers audition techniques workshop; meets from Oct. 3-24

DEARBORN – Steve Blackwood, an actor from NBC’s “Days of Our Lives,” is coming to the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center as an instructor for Recreation Department’s Audition Techniques acting workshop.

The workshop is open to people ages 13 through 20, and meets from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 24. It will culminate in a class presentation at 4 p.m. Oct. 25, in Studio A inside the Ford Center.

The cost is $60 for Dearborn residents and $70 for non-residents. Registration is required and continues through the second week of classes. Register by phone at (313) 943.2354 or at the center box office.

The center is at 15801 Michigan Ave. The box office is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Blackwood’s background in television, film and theater can help participants learn what it takes to get noticed in the acting world. He has been featured on television shows such as “Judging Amy,” “NYPD Blue” and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.” He’s been the lead actor in films and plays such as “Ed Gein” and “The Prisoner of Second Avenue.”

The workshop will combine stage and camera presence, monologues, head shot considerations and more to instill confidence and the necessary skills needed to break into the acting world.

The Dearborn Youth Theatre strives to encourage creativity through acting while building the life skills of critical thinking and teamwork to instill confidence and self esteem.
