Explorer stolen at Rouge plant
A red 1995 Ford Explorer was stolen from the Ford Rouge Plant, 3000 Schaefer, between 5:30 and 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17.
There was no broken glass where the sport utility vehicle had been parked, and the owner presented the keys to police. A call to the owner’s wife indicated that she had the spare set of keys, but did not have the SUV.
Man arrested trying to steal donation box
A Detroit man was arrested for allegedly stealing money about 1 a.m. Sept. 13 from a donation box at The Prince’s Bakery, 10622 Warren.
Police picked him up after a brief pursuit in an alley north of Warren. The store owner told police the suspect took the donation box from the checkout counter and put it into a plastic grocery bag. When an employee noticed what the man was doing, he stopped and put the donation box onto the counter.
Police seized $270 in assorted bills and $22.68 in coins from the man. It is not clear if the money was from the donation box.

Rare coins missing from vacant house
An unknown quantity of rare gold and silver coins, along with silver certificates, was stolen from a vacant house in the 5600 block of Lafayette sometime between Aug. 1 and Oct. 1.
The homeowner told police she moved out of the house earlier this year, and that her daughter had continued living at the house until August. When the homeowner went to check on the house in October, she found the side door unlocked and the coins, which were in a lock box, missing from a front hall closet.
Son’s surprise for mom ruined by theft
A man who was planning to surprise his mother with a fully furnished, remodeled house in the 23500 block of Ann Arbor Trail called police when he discovered several recently purchased furnishings missing Sept. 24.
Among the missing items were a couch, love seat, dining room table with chairs, a china cabinet, two dish sets and assorted kitchen appliances. Police believe the culprit may have entered through an unlocked window at the rear of the house.
