Dearborn library offers classes on basics of computers, internet, email, popular applications

DEARBORN-Henry Ford Centennial Library is offering a series of classes this fall on the basics of using a computer, the internet and e-mail, as well as classes to introduce users to the popular computer applications Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.

            The classes on computer basics, the internet and e-mail are free of charge. The classes on Excel and PowerPoint cost $20 per person, payable at the door. All classes are taught in the library’s newly-renovated computer training room.

            Registration is required to attend any class. Registration for each class begins one week prior to the date of the class.

            Dearborn residents will receive preferential registration. Non-residents will be placed on a wait list and will be notified two days before the class date if space is available.

             The Henry Ford Centennial Library is at 16301 Michigan Ave.

BASIC COMPUTERS
This class is intended for people who need to learn how the primary components of a computer work, such as how to turn it on and how to use a mouse and keyboard. The class is free. Class dates are:

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2; registration starts Oct. 26.

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 16; registration starts Nov. 9.

INTERNET BASICS
This class will teach the fundamentals of “surfing” and searching the internet. Basic computer skills are required for this class. The class is free of charge. Class dates are:

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 4; registration starts Oct. 28.

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18; registration starts Nov. 12.

E-MAIL ESSENTIALS
Learn how to how to establish and use your own email account. Basic computer skills are required for this class. The class is free of charge. Class dates are:

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 9; registration starts Nov. 2.

            • 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30; registration starts Nov. 23.

INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT EXCEL
This class will cover the basics of how to create a spreadsheet and program it with data. The cost is $20 per person, payable at the door. Basic computer skills are required for this class. A two-evening session will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 and 14. The $20 fee covers both sessions. Registration is underway.

INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
This class instructs students on the basics of creating their own presentations with text, graphics, sound and video. The cost is $20 per person, payable at the door. Basic computer skills are required for this class. A two-evening session will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19 and 21. The $20 fee covers both sessions. Registration is underway.
