MELVINDALE – The second annual Trunk or Treat will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at Allendale Elementary School, 3102 Oakwood Blvd.

Organizers of the event, which is put on by the city-sponsored beautification committee, promise fun for all ages. It will feature hayrides, apple cider and doughnuts for all, and face painting for children.

The namesake event highlight is a trick-or-treat option that organizers say allows children to collect candy in a monitored, controlled area, eliminating the risks inherent with the “stranger danger” aspect of traditional trick or treating.

Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes, decorate their cars and offer Halloween treats from their designated space in the lot. Prizes will be offered for the best-decorated car; participants are encouraged to be creative.

To register a car for the event call Michelle Alvarado at (313) 623-6464 or e-mail [email protected].
