Lead foot prevents car theft
A 24 year-old Lincoln Park man narrowly avoided becoming a carjacking victim when he hit the gas and fled his assailant at Wyoming and Ford about 1:20 p.m. Oct. 29.
The man told police he was at a red light on northbound Wyoming waiting to turn west onto Ford Road when a man approached him on foot and demanded he turn the car over at gunpoint. But the would-be victim accelerated through the turn without incident and reported the incident to police.
The suspect is described as an older black man with a thin to medium build, dark complexion and a deep voice. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweat pants. Police also believe the man may be left-handed, as it is reportedly the hand with which he held the gun.
