Stellar cats
Star (female) and Comet (male) are 4-month-old siblings at the Allen Park Animal Shelter, 16850 Southfield Road. The sleek, black kittens are very friendly and enjoy each other’s company. Black cats often are overlooked, volunteers say, possibly because of superstitions associated with them. These two were found as strays in Lincoln Park and have been at the shelter since Dec. 1. The shelter is housed in the back of a large blue building east of the City Hall parking lot. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cat adoptions cost $45, which includes a $15 adoption fee and a $30 spay/neuter deposit. Adopters receive a discount certificate for post-adoption veterinary care at Dix Animal Hospital, 1127 Dix in Lincoln Park. For more information call (313) 382-6173 or go to www.petfinder.com/shelters/MI. 287.html.
