Pair killed when car collides with train

December 19, 2009 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

TAYLOR — Two people were killed just after 1 a.m last Sunday when the car they were driving collided with a train crossing Goddard Road just west of Allen Road.

Police said the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by David Osborne, 29, of Lincoln Park, continued at about the speed limit along westbound Goddard past at last two cars that had stopped in the travel lanes to wait for the train to pass.

Osborne’s car struck the sixth railroad car back from the locomotive, according to Cpl. Michael Caldwell of the Traffic Bureau.
Both Osborne and his passenger, Tara Druyor, 21, of Monroe, were killed at the scene, Caldwell said.

The two last were seen visiting Osborne’s grandparents in Lincoln Park. Caldwell said it is not known if the two were coming from there at the time of the accident or where they were headed.

Police are awaiting the results of toxicology reports and a preliminary medical examination as they try to piece together exactly what happened just before the crash.

The toxicology results may not be ready for four to six weeks, Caldwell said, but he expects the medical examiner’s report within the next few days.
