Funeral home hosts grief support groups

Howe-Peterson Funeral Home will sponsor free, nondenominational grief support groups at Hope Lutheran Church, 3640 Madison in Dearborn.

Helping Hands, for children ages 5 to 12, meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on seven Tuesdays beginning Jan. 19. Children are invited to share the experience of having lost a loved one in an environment for communicating feelings and learing coping skills through artwork, storytelling and group exercises.

Teen Connection, for ages 13 to 17, meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on six Tuesdays beginning Jan. 26. The group meets simultaneously with the adult group, Journey Through Grief, where adults can share memories and work through the physical and emotional sides of grief.

“We are dedicated to providing a place where the healing can begin, where everyone in the community will find the support they need when they need it most,” Howe-Peterson President Kerrie Peterson said. “Our professionally facilitated groups reach out to the entire family, from children and teens to adults.”
