Library offers free computer training classes

Register early for friendly expert instruction

DEARBORN, Mich. – A variety of basic computer workshops will return to the Henry Ford Centennial Library, running from the end of January through mid-April.

Some are free of charge and some cost $25. Advanced registration is required.

Those who want to learn to use a computer for the first time will be interested in the Basic Computers workshop.

No computer knowledge or experience is required. Basic Computers is offered on Monday, January 25 from 6-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, February 3 from 4:30-7 p.m.; and Monday, April 5 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Internet Basics, a workshop targeted towards those who already have basic computer skills but want to learn more specifically about how to search and use the Internet, will be offered on Monday, February 1 from 6-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, February 10 from 4:30-7 p.m. and Monday, April 12 from 6-8:30.

Those interested in learning how to establish and use their own e-mail account can register for E-Mail Essentials, which will be offered on Monday, February 8 from 6-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, February 17 from 4:30-7p.m. and Monday, April 19 from 6-8:30 p.m..

A $25 fee is required for Introduction to Microsoft Word. This is an introductory word processing workshop offered in two parts, with part one taking place on Monday, February 22 from 6-8:30p.m. and part two of the workshop meeting on Monday, March 1 from 6-8:30 p.m.

The workshop will also be offered in two sessions beginning on Wednesday, February 24 from 4:30-7 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday, March 3 from 4:30-7 p.m.

Basic computer mouse skills are required, but all fundamental Word skills will be covered in detail. The $25 fee will be charged at the door for these workshops, cash only. The fee covers the student for both nights.

A fee of $25 will be charged for Introduction to Microsoft Excel. This workshop provides basic skills in spreadsheet design and data input.

The workshop will be offered in two parts, with part one taking place on Monday, March 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. and part two of the workshop meeting on Monday, March 15 from 6-8:30 p.m.

The workshop will also be offered in two sessions beginning on Wednesday, March 10 from 4:30-7 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday, March 17 from 4:30-7 p.m.

Basic computer and mouse skills are required for the Excel workshop. The $25 fee will be charged at the door, cash only. The fee covers the student for both nights.

A $25 fee will be charged for Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, which will teach students the basics of how to create their own presentations with text and graphics.

The workshop will be offered in two sessions beginning on Monday, March 22 from 6-8:30 p.m. and continuing on Monday, March 29 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Basic computer and mouse skills are required for this workshop. The $25 fee will be charged at the door for these workshops, cash only. The fee covers the student for both nights.

Registration for each class begins one week prior to the class meeting.

Workshops are limited to 12 seats, so register early as they can fill up quickly.

All workshops will meet in the training room on the first floor (southwest corridor) of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave. Signs will be posted in the lobby to direct you.
