WYANDOTTE – Fire Department official still are investigating the cause of a suspicious fire a building housing two city businesses at 3665 11th late last Sunday.

The storage area for Brock Sweeping, which is in the process of moving out, and Randall Industries, which still is moving in, was a total loss, fire officials said.

A 60-year-old woman and 17-year old boy were in the building about 11 p.m. that day to clean. They heard a suspicious “whooshing” noise coming from the east warehouse side of the building at 11:30 p.m. and discovered smoke already in the warehouse area.

The worsening smoke prompted the two to exit the building quickly. They reported seeing flames going through the roof as they left.

Firefighters received help from departments in Southgate, Riverview and Lincoln Park.

Department of Municipal Services employees cut power to the building and to help barricade surrounding streets.
