Divine Child High School students took the top three honors in the Optimist Club of Dearborn’s annual essay contest and were recognized Feb. 24 during a special meeting at the Fairlane Club. The theme of contest was “The Internet: Today’s Evolution or Tomorrow’s Menace?” First place was awarded to Erika Giroux (seventh from left), second place to Lindsay Weiss (third from left) and third place to Kelly Krater (fifth from left). More than 65 entries were received from four high schools. Also attending the ceremony were 19th District Judge William Hultgren (left), one of three judges of the contest; County Commissioner and Optimist Club member Gary Woronchak; Barry Murray, Dearborn Economic and Community Development Director and essay contest chairperson; Ken Williams; Davenport University official; Ron Gutkowski, assistant to the superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools; and Barry Hawthorne, of the Advanced Technology Academy and Optimist Club president.
