DEARBORN – The city of Dearborn will begin its 2010 season for Public Service Days during the week of April 5.
Public Service Days will be every week through Dec. 4, so neighborhoods get services, like street-sweeping, delivered to them in an effective manner.
The 8 a.m. start time gives residents time to leave for school or work without having to worry about moving their parked vehicles from the street.
Offering Public Service Days every week will also make it easier for residents to remember when they need to move their parked vehicles, city officials said.
For 2010, Public Service Days are the same day as trash collection days, every week.
If trash is picked up on Monday, Public Service Day is Monday. The pattern continues through the rest of the week.
Knowing when your Public Service Day occurs is important, officials said, because tickets will be issued to owners of parked vehicles left on the streets.
Public Service Days have decreased the amount of time that Public Works crews need to perform specific tasks, allowing for greater productivity, officials said. That means more miles of city streets are swept on a Public Service Day than could be completed before.
They also have reduced the number of accidents experienced by large city vehicles because streets are safer to maneuver through when parked cars are removed.
