DEARBORN — City Councilwoman Nancy Hubbard recently helped the Noretta Dunworth mark her 70th anniversary as a dance instructor.
Before the May 30 Noretta Dunworth School of Dance recital at the Michael A. Guido Theatre in the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, Hubbard shared some memories of the school’s namesake.
“She used to stand in the curtains on the stage at Fordson High School Sunday night before the election and kind of helped her kids with the steps, because they’d forget the steps,” Hubbard said.
The councilwoman also recalled how her father, former Mayor Orville Hubbard, had asked Dunworth to perform at his political events and said that Dunworth always credits her “fame and fortune” to him.
Nancy Hubbard’s favorite dance she learned from Dunworth was called the Dipsy Doodle.
“I wore a top hat and a red, white and blue outfit, and my dancing shoes were all full of sparkles,” Hubbard said. “It was just a snappy little number.”
In noting Dunworth’s milestone, the councilwoman said, “I wish her another 70 years of success.”
