HOLLYWOOD … Take a long look at Julia Roberts the next time you see her. She’s been making the rounds of the talk shows looking “younger than springtime.” Mayhap a facial tuck or two? Julia talks a great deal about her kids and family and husband. It’s always nice to know about happily married Hollywood twosomes.

Want a good showbiz read? Try “Life Unsealed” by Belinda Carlisle (Crown Books). The lead singer of the Go-Gos reveals her struggle with substance abuse and other ups and downs. It’s being called a “Cinderella story.” So settle in and have a go at a very heartfelt and winning read.

To get back to “face tucks,” take a good long look at Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. The former round face is now sculpted and most attractive. Maybe also a tuck or two? She also is on the talk-show circuit, and doing very well, I might add.

Another big award for Sandra Bullock. She is the first femme ever to receive the MTV Generation Award. It’s a good thing she purchased that huge house in the New Orleans Garden District. She will need it to house all the statuettes, plaques and etc. she’s taking home.

Come October, Oprah Winfrey will receive the Minerva Award given to women “on the front lines of humanity.” The event will be held at the Warner’s Conference in Long Beach, Calif. Meanwhile, Miss Winfrey keeps rolling along, sporting umpteen different hairdos — straight, curly, frizzy, long and short — and umpteen interesting shows. It’s said she is one of the most powerful women in the country. And you’d better believe it!

How about this for a lineup of celebs? Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Candice Bergen, Dustin Hoffman and Shirley MacLaine all joining in for the AFI Achievement Award. It’s always fun to watch these award shows on TV. But it’s even more fun to watch backstage, if you are lucky enough to be backstage. Luckily I have been (as an accredited journalist).

The Golden Girls have left us. Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty and just recently Rue McClanahan, with only Betty White left. Let us hope she’s around for quite awhile to keep shedding that great “White” light.

Aside to Bella D. of Denver: You ask when is the best time to come visit Hollywood. Honey, there “ain’t no best time.” Everything is relative. There are crowds sightseeing on Hollywood and Sunset boulevards, at the studios and on bus tours. If you are lucky, one might pop up somewhere. But the best thing to do (as I have said before) is to take a paid tour, and you are likely to see someone. If not that, then certainly the house in which they live.

BITS ’N’ PIECES: Those pug dogs of Joan Blondell were named Bridey (after Bridey Murphy) and “Fresh-As-A-Tulip” (called Freshey). … And Hermione Baddeley’s Bull was George. Many was the time when she had to leave him in Britain while she filmed in Hollywood. And believe it or not, she called him every day long distance.
