LINCOLN PARK — A 49-year-old woman in the 900 block of Kaier was the victim of a carjacking by a 15-year-old resident last week in her driveway.
She was backing out when a man who had been walking north approached and put a small black revolver to her head and ordered her out of her silver 2002 Ford Explorer.
She put up her hands and asked if she could remove her purse, but the man declined and got into her running sport utility vehicle and sped north on Fort Street.
An officer saw the SUV speeding north through residential streets in Detroit between Outer Drive and Coolidge. A plainclothes detective saw a possible suspect behind a gas station carrying a red shirt. Another saw him enter a house on South Bassett.
Police then formed a perimeter and ordered the occupants outside, and a Detroit man and his family came out, saying an unknown man had just entered the house and that he had asked him to leave.
A K-9 officer found the suspect in the basement. He kicked at the dog and knocked a weightlifting bar bearing weights while refusing to obey officers.
The suspect then kicked a weight bench toward another officer, who was struck in the ankle before taking the man to the floor with other officers.
The homeowner identified the shirt worn by the suspect as one that had been in the basement before the suspect ran inside.
The SUV was recovered in Detroit after being abandoned prior to the chase. The boy was arrested for armed robbery and taken to juvenile detention.
