Goodfellows seeking volunteers for newspaper sale

October 16, 2010 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

TAYLOR — The Goodfellows are seeking volunteers to help raise funds to provide Christmas dinner to city families and presents to children.

Volunteers will sell special fundraising newspapers on city streets Nov. 26 through 28.

The Goodfellows plan to serve 300 families this year, using money raised during two Texas Hold’em tournaments. This year’s donations would pay for food and toys next year.

Goodfellows President Lanny Hall said the organization had been dormant since 2004, but regrouped last year to serve 60 families. He said referrals for this year will be accepted the Monday after Thanksgiving Day.

Baskets will be picked up starting at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 through 18 at Papp Park, 9350 Westlake.

To volunteer or submit the name of a family in need call (313) 295-6450.

Volunteers will gather at 10 a.m. Nov. 6 outside City Hall, 23555 Goddard Road, for a group photo that will appear in the Goodfellows newspaper.
