DEARBORN – The Inter-Service Club Council of Dearborn recently honored members of its individual organizations who represent exemplary commitment to their group and the community.
Of those outstanding members who volunteer their much time and effort, Doug Feldkamp was chosen as the 2010 Serviceperson of the Year.
The Inter-Service Club Council, which meets to share ideas for fundraising and event participation among the different charitable organizations, announced the honor at the Council’s 49th awards luncheon on Nov. 10 at the Dearborn Country Club.
Feldkamp joined the Dearborn Outer Drive Kiwanis in 1999 and currently serves on the organization’s board of directors. He was named Kiwanian of the Year in 2010 for his outstanding service in numerous leadership roles, including as president.
He also was recognized for his participation in many Kiwanis initiatives, such as Safety Town, the Turbo Turtle Derby fundraiser at Dearborn Homecoming, Salvation Army bell ringing, and bingo at Sisson and Hubbard manors.
An expert in information technology, Feldkamp is the director of the city’s Management of Information Systems Department.
He worked with the East and West downtown development authorities to bring free wireless access to many downtown businesses — a service called OpenDearborn.
He also worked to provide internet service to volunteer AARP Tax Aid counselors at the Dearborn Senior Center so they could more easily assist seniors with completing their tax forms.
