HEIGHTS – A 42-year-old Inkster man was killed Thursday evening after driving north on southbound Telegraph Road.

He turned his Ford Taurus left from eastbound Richardson onto southbound Telegraph and the driver, a resident, did not turn on his headlights as he traveled north into oncoming one-way traffic about 8 p.m.

After running a red light at Warren Road, the Taurus narrowly missed hitting one vehicle before smashing head-on into a silver Ford Explorer driven by a Dearborn man. The Taurus’ driver died in the crash and the Explorer’s driver was hospitalized with nonfatal injuries, published reports said.

A witness told police the Taurus was being followed by another north-bound vehicle that was flashing its high beams just before the accident, but police still were investigating the claim Friday afternoon.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Witnesses, or anyone with additional information, are asked to call police at (313) 791-9808.
