HEIGHTS — The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dearborn Heights officially will get under way at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 as event volunteers and participants gather at the Caroline Kennedy Library for a kickoff rally to launch its fundraising efforts for the year.
The Relay For Life of Dearborn Heights is an overnight event from 10 a.m. April 30 to 10 a.m. that is designed to raise money and increase awareness of fighting cancer. Although it’s more than three months away, residents are invited to learn more about the upcoming event and how they can participate.
Teams of family, friends and co-workers camp out overnight, taking turns walking the track. During the event, participants and vistors will have a chance to celebrate the victory of area cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap, remember those lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony that gives everyone a chance to proclaim their way of taking action against the disease.
Community members are urged to start or join a team, or to make donations to this event, by going to www.relayforlife.org.
The 2011 Relay For Life of Dearborn Heights will take place May 1 at Chircop Field near Pardee Elementary School, 4650 Pardee.
