DETROIT — A Dearborn man was sentenced Tuesday in the death of Taylor Auxiliary Police Lt. Daniel Kromer in September.

Judge Linda Parker sentenced Nino Delpiano, 40, to up to 67 and a half years in prison on second-degree murder for the hit-and-run.

Kromer, 54, of Berlin Township, was struck while assisting a lost couple on the side of I-94 along Pelham in Taylor.

Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office officials said Delpiano, who was tried and found guilty Jan. 25, also faces up to 30 years in prison for other charges related to Kromer’s death.

Delpiano has had previous trouble with the law, including arrests on charges of receiving stolen property and drug possession.

Kromer was a 20-year auxiliary police veteran.
