Restaurant staff, customers help group help others

March 12, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Dearborn Goodfellows president Larry Johnson (left) receives a check from Ali Mousa while Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. looks on.

Ali Mousa, owner of Dimtri’s Fine Food, 2424 S. Telegraph Road in Dearborn, recently donated $2,000 to the Dearborn Goodfellows.

As a board member of the group, Mousa sells its annual papers on the street while featuring a collection box at his restaurant to accumulate donations.

On one evening each Thanksgiving week, Dimitri’s provides free dinners to customers, and all donations are given to the Dearborn Goodfellows. Also on those evenings, the restaurant’s wait staff donates all of its tips to the Goodfellows.

The Dearborn Goodfellows is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that has been aiding children and families since the 1920s. They always are looking for new members and volunteers for newspaper street sales.

The Goodfellows also sponsor the annual Smoke on the Grill fundraiser each fall. Interested volunteers can contact John Allevato at (313) 563-0096.
