Heights Chamber prepares for Michigan Week and National Small Business Week

April 16, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Michigan Week, an annual tribute to the best of the Great Lakes State, began in 1954 as a way to promote state pride among citizens and to celebrate the rich heritage and unique features that make Michigan special. The Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce has records of celebrating Michigan Week as far back as 1985 with various awards, programs and promotions. Each year Michigan made products have been featured for the lunch and decorations. For the past few years, the chamber has been recognizing businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries as part of their Michigan Week Celebration.

This year, the chamber is pleased to announce the addition of a small business resource expo during its Michigan Week Celebration on May 17, which also coincides with National Small Business Week. This premier event will bring local, state and federal organizations under one roof to assist the small business owner and/or entrepreneurs by providing low-cost and free business services and resources including financial, consulting, planning, and advice. Business persons may schedule short, personal and confidential interviews with these organizations. Some of the organizations represented will be Service Corps of Retired Executives, PNC Bank, The Center for Empowerment and Economic Development, Schoolcraft College, Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, Procurement Technical Assistance Center and others.

The keynote speaker during lunch will be Meaghan McCann of Search Ad Marketing. The topic will be “Tips and Tricks for Successful Digital Marketing.” The expo is open to the public with free admission but advance registration is required. The lunch is $25 per person. The event will be held at Warren Valley Golf and Banquet Center, at 26116 W. Warren Ave. in Dearborn Heights. The Michigan Week Celebration 2011 is sponsored by Oakwood Healthcare. For more information regarding this event or to register, contact the Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce at (313) 274-7480.
