DEARBORN — Dearborn students are invited to nominate teachers for the 2011 Dearborn Chamber of Commerce Alberta Muirhead Teacher of the Year Awards.
Nominations can be submitted online at http://dearbornschools.org/toy
“We wanted to make this process as simple as possible because we wanted to encourage all students to nominate their favorite teachers — especially considering the challenging school year that this community has endured,“ chamber president Jennifer Knott Giering said. “Teachers make such an impact in the lives of our community’s children. We expect to receive hundreds of nominations again this year.”
One winner from elementary, middle and high school will be announced at a ceremony and reception June 2 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
Teachers selected will receive a $1,000 cash prize, a plaque commemorating their achievement, and will be part of a select group of Dearborn teachers who have been recognized by the community for their dedication and passion for teaching.
The first year the award was presented, in 1997, students submitted 65 nominations for 57 teachers in 19 schools, Giering said. Last year, the chamber received more than 1,000 nominations.
