Mother Nature’s assault continues

May 28, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

About 3 inches of rain last Wednesday and Thursday caused the Rouge River and Ecorse Creek to overflow their banks and caused low areas to flood. Above, an abandoned car sits in water on southbound Telegraph Road under Michigan Avenue Friday morning while traffic diverts to avoid the flood. Below, the covered bridge is practically the only thing visible at Ford Field Thursday after the Lower Branch of the Rouge River flooded the park from the base of the hill almost to the Monroe Avenue access road. Last week’s rain made this spring the fourth wettest on record in the Detroit area, with almost 14 inches of rainfall through Friday afternoon.
