The Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce once again will hold its annual Family Fun Day & Business Open House on Aug. 2. The chamber and the Dearborn Heights Police Department have teamed up to offer local families an alternative to crime and drugs for children.
Families have the opportunity to spend some time together by visiting more than 30 participating chamber member businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and collect tickets that can be used to redeem prizes (while supplies last).
“The more businesses you visit, the more tickets you will have, and the better prizes you will get,” said Wendy Fichter, executive director of the chamber. “Most businesses will be having their own activities as well, such as a clown, face painting, free drawings, in addition to specials they will offer throughout the day including discount food, dessert samples, drawings, games, etc.”
Oakwood Healthcare is the main sponsor of the event this year and it will have a tent at the park with family oriented information.
Upon registration, each family will be given a map indicating the location of each participating business. There will be a wide range of businesses participating including restaurants, eye care, dental care, retail locations, accounting services, apartments, schools and churches.
The fun continues from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Van Houten Splash Park on Silvery Lane. Besides the prize tent, there will also be bouncy inflatables for the children, Happy the Clown, Fun Tent, and entertainment including a disc jockey. Wayne County Commissioner Diane Webb again will sponsor a Stranger Smart Program for children at 3 p.m. where they can receive additional prize tickets for attending.
The chamber of commerce will be selling concessions such as 25-cent hot dogs, chips, water and ice cream.
A family pass can be purchased for $10 which includes an additional package for the whole family. Each family member will receive a free game of bowling and shoes at Cherry Hill Lanes (Inkster and Cherry Hill roads), free game of miniature golf at Midway Golf (Van Born Road) and free admission at Transitions Skate Park (Van Born Court). They will also receive a hot dog, chips, water and ice cream at Van Houten Park from 4 to 8 p.m. Some restrictions apply.
