First Baptist Church of Dearborn was founded in 1924. Remodeling in the 1970s included a fellowship hall that provides the congregation and neighborhood groups a beautiful, well-equipped space to gather. The church is a barrier-free facility, since the addition of a new elevator that accesses all five levels of the building. Worship is for all ages and begins Sunday at 10 a.m. The service is designed for people who seek to encounter God through both traditional and contemporary music, Biblical sermons, and prayers for the community. Christian education programs run from September through the end of May. They have Sunday school for all ages from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; and Bible Study on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Vacation Bible school is offered in the evenings this summer from July 24 to 28. One of First Baptist’s ministry’s, Two Cans for Two Hands, is an ongoing effort to help feed the needy in the community. Those attending Sunday worship are asked to bring two cans of nonperishable food. First Baptist Church distributes these items to metropolitan Detroit food banks. This summer a new community garden has been planted on the property. Produce grown will be provided to Friendship House.
