LIVONIA – Co-op Services Credit Union will conduct its third annual backpack drive through Aug. 12 to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year.
New backpacks, folders, notebooks, pens, scissors, pencils and other supplies will be collected at donation boxes in the lobbies of the credit union’s eight branch offices located throughout metropolitan Detroit.
CSCU also is partnering with 96.3 WDVD-FM 96.3 and WJBK-TV Channel 2 to receive school supply donations at a “Stuff-A-Bus” event from Aug. 5 to 7. The event will be held at Direct Optical, 41840 Ford Road in Canton, and at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights. CSCU staff and the company’s mascot, Rock Star, will be on hand at the Canton location to help accept donations.
“In working with local schools through our student credit unions and financial literacy programs, we recognize that there are still lots of families struggling to provide basic needs for their children, including school supplies,” said Jeremy Cybulski, CSCU youth and community development coordinator. “These school supplies will help give many deserving children a positive start to their school year.”
The donations will be distributed through Volunteers of America and its Operation Backpack initiative.
