DEARBORN HEIGHTS CHAMBER PROMOTES FAMILY FUN

July 15, 2011 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

The Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Heights Police have teamed up to offer local families an alternative to crime and drugs for children. The Chamber’s annual Family Fun Day and Business Open House is sponsored this year by Oakwood Healthcare.

Families have the opportunity to spend some time together on Aug. 2 by visiting more than 30 participating Chamber member businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and collecting tickets that will be used to redeem prizes (while supplies last). The more businesses people visit, the more tickets they will have. Most businesses will be having their own activities such as a face painting and free drawings, in addition to specials they will offer throughout the day, including discounted food, dessert samples, drawings and games. Upon registration, each family will be given a map indicating the location of each participating business. There will be a wide range of businesses participating including restaurants, car care, dental care, retail locations, accounting services, apartments and churches.

The fun continues from 4 to 8 p.m. at the newly renovated Van Houten Splash Park on Silvery Lane. Besides the prize tent, there will also be bouncy inflatables for the children, “Happy, the Clown,” Target Fun Tent and entertainment including a disc jockey. The Chamber of Commerce will be selling concessions such as 25-cent hot dogs, chips, water and ice cream. Oakwood Healthcare will be providing health services during the day such as free blood pressure screening and child car seat safety education and information. OakAssist will provide information to those in need of assistance with health coverage, food and housing. Oakwood’s HealthLink will have its mobile unit to provide first aid support.

A family pass may be purchased for $10 which includes an additional package for the whole family. Each family member will receive a free game of bowling and shoes at Cherry Hill Lanes (300 N. Inkster Road), free game of miniature golf at Midway Sports & Entertainment (22381 Van Born) and free admission at Transitions Skate Park (5616 Van Born Court). Included in the family pass is a hot dog, chips, water and ice cream at Van Houten Park from 4 to 8 p.m. for each person in the family. Pome restrictions apply.

To purchase a family pass, go to www.DearbornHeightsChamber.com or call the Chamber for more details at (313) 274-7480. Registration will take place Aug 1-2 at the Chamber office, 24951 W. Warren in Dearborn Heights, or at PostNet 23309 Ford Road in Dearborn.
