Wendy Sample (left), co-director of Pockets of Perception Student Design Team, paints a 5-foot-high apple Aug. 19 as part of Michigan Apple Trail. The apple, on display through September at the Dearborn Farmers and Artisan’s Market, is one of 20 similar sculptures featured at other area farmers markets, including Wyandotte Farmers Market, Garden City Farmers Market and Detroit Eastern Market where visitors will vote for their favorite. The winning apple will receive the People’s Choice Award at the Apple Gala and Auction in October at Eastern Market. All painted apples will be auctioned off at the event with the proceeds going to the apples’ respective farmers markets.
