Wal-Mart assistant managers Samir Agemy (left) and Fatimah Muhammad were ready to greet customers Wednesday at the grand opening of the chain’s Southgate store. One year after breaking ground at the northeast corner of Dix-Toledo and Eureka roads, the 156-000-square-foot store replaces a fading strip mall and brings more than 600 jobs to the city. Muhammad said that the first morning was a success beyond their expectations, with excited customers vying for parking space in a filled lot and browsing the super center aisles, to include being the only Wal-Mart in the region to offer floral services.
