Thunderbird Ski Club, which represents counties throughout southeastern Michigan, will host an open house at 7 p.m. Friday at American Legion Post 32, 9318 Newburgh Road, Livonia.
The event will be an opportunity for all of the previous and present members and anyone interested in joining the Thunderbirds to see what the ski club is all about. It will be open to people over 21 and will include ski trip information, ski displays, and a disc jockey for dancing. Appetizers and a cash bar will also be available for $3.
The club was started in 1949 as the Ford Ski Club by 14 employees of Ford Motor Co. Later the name was changed and the club was opened to the public. The club is one of the largest ski clubs in the nation, with more than 400 members.
Besides skiing popular ski resorts in Colorado, Utah, and California, the Tbirds also arrange trips to Canada and Europe. Closer to home, the Tbirds arrange weekend trips to locations throughout Michigan. Instructors and race teams are also available.
The club also offers golfing, canoeing, biking, holiday parties and other outings.
