DEARBORN — Yemeni human rights activist Tawakkul Karman, the first Arab woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, will speak here Sunday.
Karman will deliver a speech and conduct a question-and-answer session regarding the changes in the Middle East from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave. The event is free and open to the public, and is supported by the city, UM-D and Yemeni Popular Support Committee.
In Yemen, the outspoken Karman, 32, is known as the “Iron Woman” and the “Mother of Revolution.” Her brief arrest in January helped ignite protests by hundreds of thousands demanding that the country’s authoritarian regime be toppled and replaced by a democratic government.
