Did “Deck the Halls” just play on the radio? Stores already are hawking their Black Friday shopping specials, and in Lansing the state Christmas tree was put in place last weekend.
Christmas is still six weeks away. Is that too soon to begin celebrating?
Not for us. It is hard to find fault with excessive holiday cheer. The days are short, and it is getting dark before dinnertime. There’s no snow yet, but the gray of a Michigan winter is already here.
So, while holiday observances that were once marked with more restraint in our childhoods now seem to stretch on for weeks, maybe Christmas should be the exception.
Pass the eggnog, in other words. It’s OK to start watching “A Christmas Story.”
