HEIGHTS — More than 200 volunteers helped 74 senior citizen homeowners during Wayne County Commissioner Diane Webb’s third annual Make a Senior Smile Day Nov. 12.
Volunteers raked and filled more than 1,600 bags of leaves and performed other household chores for seniors in Webb’s district, consisting of Dearborn Heights, Redford Township and Garden City.
Students from Annapolis High School’s Key Club were some of the volunteers who helped out. The students worked at the house of 93-year-old Albert Vail of Dearborn Heights.
“It was a great day, the weather was terrific and our volunteers were so energetic,” said Webb (D-9th District). “I am so grateful that we were able to help so many seniors in the community. The students learned a great lesson about giving back to their neighbors and had a great time in the process.”
