AP city manager back on the job

ALLEN PARK – A city administrator who submitted his letter of resignation last week is back on the job.

John Zech reportedly rescinded his resignation last week.

Zech, who has worked for the city since August, submitted his letter of resignation Jan. 27, saying he wasn’t being as effective as he could be and hoped his replacement would be “more compatible with City Council.”

Zech’s contract ended in December but he stayed on with the city while motions to discuss his contract were tabled at subsequent City Council meetings. A new contract for Zech, who came out of retirement for the position after working as city manager of Wayne for 18 years, is expected.

Human Resources Director Don Wood was slated to fill the vacancy, the third in the position in a year, on an interim basis.

Eric Waidelich left the position in February 2011 after four years, followed by David Tamsen, who resigned in August after seven months.

Zech did not return phone calls seeking comment for this story by press time.
