LINCOLN PARK — Nearly two years after the dog-mauling death of 5-year-old Kyle Holland, a jury trial is scheduled to begin in May.

Kyle’s mother, Debralynn Holland, and Earl Dwayne Adkins face a final conference in April before a jury trial begins May 22 before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Annette J. Berry. Holland and Adkins face charges including involuntary manslaughter and owning a dangerous animal, both felonies carrying a potential 15-year prison sentence.

Kyle Holland died after being attacked in July 2010 by a dog owned by Adkins. During several months worth of preliminary exams held in 25th District Court, officials testified that the boy suffered more than 80 puncture wounds and 250 abrasions during the attack.

Holland and Adkins were arraigned Feb. 13 in Circuit Court, and remain free on bond.
