HEIGHTS — A 46-year-old Detroit woman is dead and a 36-year-old Taylor man is in critical condition after being hit by an alleged drunken driver March 11.
Police are not releasing the victim’s names until the families have been notified.
According to published reports, around 9 p.m. March 11, the victims were at a red light near Hanover Street on southbound Telegraph Road in a Ford Mustang when a Chrysler van hit the back of their vehicle.
The Taylor man is in critical condition at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center, a Dearborn Heights police spokesman said.
A preliminary report from the Wayne County Medical Examiner said the Detroit woman died of multiple injuries.
The driver of the van, a 50-year-old Dearborn man, suffered minor injuries and is in police custody. The driver was arraigned shortly after his arrest.
According to published reports his blood-alcohol level was 0.24 percent. The legal limit in Michigan is 0.08 percent.
Dearborn Heights police said he is at the Wayne County Jail on a $50,000 bound.
