The Community Policing Blood Drive last week continued a twice-yearly tradition of nearly two decades in Lincoln Park, a joint campaign between the police department’s community outreach division and the American Red Cross. Space for the event was again donated by the Lincoln Park Skate Center, 1419 Southfield, and donors exchanged a pint of blood for a T-shirt, barbecue lunch or dinner as they did their part. Police coordinator Lt. William Sant’Angelo (left) watches while his daughter, Paige, prepares to donate with the help of Red Cross staffer Whitney Hardy. Sant’Angelo said the campaign typically adds between 250 and 300 pints of blood to Red Cross supplies. Lincoln Park hosts a drive the Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
