LINCOLN PARK — For the second time in several months, city officials have agreed upon a candidate to fill the empty city manager’s office.
The city council Monday approved offering the position to Gregory Capote, an economic development manager who previously served with Wayne County and the city of Novi.
Mayor Patricia Diaz Krause said that following Monday’s agreement among council, a background check will be com-
pleted and Capote will be offered a contract for consideration. Based upon previous conversations, Diaz Krause said she anticipates that terms will be agreed upon and Capote may be on the job as early as next month.
“I’m not anticipating any issues,” Diaz Krause said. “The next step will be to offer the contract and see if he wants to make any changes or negotiate.”
Lincoln Park has been without a manager since Steve Duchane resigned last year. In January the council concluded a search and interview process by offering the post to John Michrina, city manager of Center Line, but the terms were not agreed upon and Michrina withdrew from the position.
Diaz Krause said that discussions with Capote indicate that the position and salary would be mutually agreeable.
“We said we wanted him for the job,” Diaz Krause said. “He said, ‘Great, I want to be there.’”
